Support Worker Jobs

As a support worker, you will be looking after the mental and physical wellbeing of people who are currently in care. You will not just be working with the elderly you may be working with other vulnerable individuals. For example an adult with mental health problems, learning disabilities, addiction issues or other social or emotional needs.

If you enjoy making a positive impact on people's lives, this job could be perfect for you. Within this job role, you will find yourself making a connection with people from all walks of life. Looking to create a relationship based on trust with the individual is very important. Being able to listen to the person problem understanding and doing your best to help make it better. You will also have to be non-judging with anything you are trusted with.

Support Worker Responsibilities

As a care worker, you may be expected to provide physical care. This can include:

  • Bathing
  • Toileting
  • Dressing
  • Feeding

You will also be in charge of checking the well-being of the individual you are in charge of caring for. Understanding the residents' needs and the progress they have been making since the last time you spoke. With this, you will be helping in creating a positive and safe living environment for the individual.

Another task is teaching the individual daily living skills. With this you will help them to:

  • Budget
  • Shop
  • Claim Benefits

Helping them to be as independent as possible. You will be on hand to help and answer any questions or issues they have.

We also provide support worker care for young people. Often you will find yourself creating and implying a set of rules to help curve the young person's behaviour. On occasion, you may have to act as a learning support assistant in a learning environment.

Communication is a big part of the job as you find yourself communicating with residents, family and friends. This will often be organising for them to have a home visit or to invite them into the care home. You will also be in contact with other health care professionals. Working side by side with them to provide the best possible care.
